Since the 2000s, a rapid influx of Han Chinese migrants, large-scale infrastructure projects, and other state-led strategies of modernization have transformed the Tibetan plateau and led to an effective marginalization of the Tibetan community, who now make up around 85% of the rural population, but only 5% of the population in cities and 10% of the population in towns.
